Block Pallet Design: Heavy-Duty 4-Way Entry, Built for Your Heaviest Loads

Custom block pallet manufacturing from Appalachian hardwood. Nine-block construction, true 4-way entry, and load ratings engineered to your spec — shipped from our Pennsylvania facility.

A Block Pallet That Won’t Quit Under Pressure

When your product is heavy, your supply chain is automated, or your operation demands true 4-way forklift access, a block pallet is the right answer. At Jacob A. Weaver Pallet Company, we manufacture custom block pallets from new, high-density Appalachian hardwood — built to your exact dimensions, load rating, and handling environment, on our automated production lines in Cochranton, Pennsylvania. Our block pallets are designed for high-weight loads, repeat use, and forklift-friendly access on all sides—making them ideal for chemicals, food, beverage, and manufacturing.

Standard sizes? Custom dimensions? Heavy-duty configurations? We build them all.

Our Block Pallet Construction Explained

A block pallet replaces the long stringer boards of a stringer pallet with nine solid blocks — typically arranged in a 3-by-3 grid — that sit between the top and bottom deck boards. Those blocks act as the structural columns of the pallet, with horizontal stringer boards connecting them on all four sides.

The result is a fundamentally different pallet:

  • True 4-way entry: forklift tines and pallet jacks enter cleanly from any side

  • Higher load capacity: distributes weight across nine columns instead of three stringers

  • Greater rigidity: resists twisting and racking deflection

  • Compatible with automated systems: preferred in warehouses with robotic handling

  • International standard footprint: block construction is the global default

If you've ever moved a Euro-style EUR pallet, you've moved a block pallet. They're the standard across most of the world for a reason.

When to Choose a Block Pallet

Both pallet styles have their place. The block pallet is the right choice when you:

  • Need true 4-way pallet jack access: A notched stringer pallet allows 4-way forklift entry, but only a block pallet allows full 4-way pallet jack entry.

  • Are handling heavy or dense loads: Block construction distributes weight more efficiently than stringers.

  • Are using automated material handling: AS/RS systems, automated conveyors, and robotic forklifts are typically designed around block pallet geometry.

  • Are shipping internationally: Block pallets are the global standard and integrate easily with European, Asian, and South American supply chains.

  • Are racking heavy product: Block pallets generally outperform stringer pallets in unsupported rack positions.

For lighter loads, domestic shipping, and applications where forklift-only entry is sufficient, a stringer pallet is often the more cost-effective choice. Our engineers will help you decide.

Industries and Uses for Block Pallets

We manufacture block pallets for customers across every sector that demands a heavy-duty, 4-way-accessible pallet:

  • Automotive — engine components, transmissions, body parts

  • Chemical and industrial — drums, totes, bulk containers

  • Heavy machinery — equipment parts, castings, fabricated assemblies

  • Food and beverage processing — high-volume unitized loads

  • International shipping — exports requiring 4-way handling and ISPM 15 compliance

  • Automated warehousing — AS/RS, conveyor, and robotic handling systems

  • Battery and energy storage — dense, heavy loads requiring maximum stability

If your operation needs a pallet that withstands repeated handling, heavy loads, and demanding logistics, we build it.
